Israel Irrobali defeated Vanessa Betts by about 25 percentage points, 62% to 37%, in the El Paso Independent School District District 5 runoff, on Saturday. He will be replacing outgoing School Board member Chuck Taylor, who opted not to run for reelection earlier this year.
Irrobali was heavily backed by the Kids First PAC, which is supported by a group of local businessman, including Woody Hunt and Richard Castro, who each donated about $28,000 to the PAC.
Irrobali took home 1,196 votes out of 1,916 total. Turnout for Saturday’s runoff election was only 6% of registered voters.
