In new political developments, former El Paso Congressman Beto O’Rourke continues to travel across the state, as he is attempting to organize opposition to the GOP’s “Election Integrity” bill, which Texas Progressives refer to as a voter suppression bill.

O’Rourke hasn’t said whether he’ll be running for Governor or not next year, and doesn’t yet have the organization in place that would indicate that he’s about to, but his statewide activities and involvement continue to fuel speculation that he might.

Actor Matthew McConaughey also continues to stoke speculation about his possible political intentions. McConaughey recently spoke against anti-mask sentiments, saying that the mask mandates, while being inconvenient, weren’t destructive of Constitutional liberty. Conservative comedian Chad Prather, who has announced that he is challenging Governor Greg Abbott in next years Texas GOP gubernatorial primary, was a vocal critic of Abbotts mask mandate.

The PAC People Not Profits have begun to circulate a petition to draft Matthew McConaughey for Governor.

Could we see a McConaughey/O’Rourke showdown in next years Texas Democratic primary?

The May jobs report, released this morning, showed a net gain of 559,000 new jobs last month. The unemployment rate fell to 5.8%.
